The AssetID asset registration service offers individuals and property owners a simple way to register the assets i.e. mobile phones and gadgets, and other appliances they currently own and those they intend to purchase. In promoting this initiative nationwide, we will liaise with retailers of appliances, insurance companies, secondhand dealers, and law enforcement agencies committed to consumer protection and safety. This consumer safety initiative aims to encourage more people to register and protect their assets to prove ownership and improve their chances of recovery in the event of theft. 

Subscribers who register their assets with us will be issued with a verifiable digital certificate of ownership with an embedded QR code that bears the registered owner’s name, his/her Ghana card number, unique features of the asset including the brand name and model and the Serial No (in case of gadgets or appliances) or IMEI No (in case of mobile phones). This digital Certificate of Authenticity will be stored on the blockchain and prevent it from any manipulation or forging of the data linked to it.

Registering your asset in the AssetID database will help:

• In the traceability of such assets. With our Certificate of Ownership, every time a registered mobile phone, gadget or appliance is sold or transferred, a record of the transaction will be stored on the blockchain. This will allow individuals who intend to buy any registered mobile phone, gadget or appliance to track its history including the previous owners and their contact details, and the value of such appliances or assets, among others.

• The Police and other law enforcement agencies to easily identify the owners of any recovered registered stolen or missing mobile phones, gadgets or appliances. All it requires is for the Police to dial our Short Code *920*178#, select Option 2 and follow the prompts and the registered owner’s name and his/her contact number including the brand, model of any recovered registered phone, gadget or appliance will be sent to them in real time. This makes it easier for the Police to contact the registered owner of to bring the Ghana card used for the registration to collect the recovered items.

• Simplify police reports as individuals now have digital Certificates of Ownership covering any purchased asset with their Serial Nos and/or IMEI Nos linked to their Ghana cards as evidence of ownership whenever they report of any registered stolen or missing item to the police station.

• Retail companies register any mobile phone, gadgets and appliances in-store and issue their customers with digital Certificates of Ownership in real time at the time of purchase. This will help to improve the traceability of such assets to their rightful owners in the event of theft.

• Combat the sale of any stolen or missing registered mobile phone, gadgets & other appliances in the second-hand market. Individuals who are offered such items to buy need to dial our Short Code *920*178#, select Option 2 and follow the prompts to verify the ownership of such mobile phones, gadgets or appliances in real time, if only they are registered..

Simplify the insurance of such assets and related claims with the digital Certificates of Ownership linked to the Ghana Card of their registered owners. Insurance companies can dial our Short Code *920*178# and follow the prompts to verify the ownership of any registered asset they intend to insure in real time. This has the potential to also simplify the insurance claims process
